Since 2015, Chicago's Axis: Sova has morphed and mutated in sound and size across a string of albums for God?/Drag City. Originally a solo guitar noise n' drum machine project for Brett Sova, A:S now operates as a 3-piece power unit with Jeremy Freeze on bass and Josh Johannpeter on drums in addition to their usual array of drum machines, keeping things at once lively and motorik. Their pop-sense crystalizing over and over throughout this evolution, it's continuously shattered by propulsive blasts of psyched-up post-punk and hook-laden, six-string action on their latest album, Blinded By Oblivion.
Produced by Ty Segall at Harmonizer Studios, Blinded By Oblivion is the most direct and consistently catchy Axis: Sova LP to date, rolled tight with high-energy rock construction. Icy lyrical perspectives, rendered in a sunshiny natural paradise (the clash of industrial steel and indelible nature is sonically palpable), transmit the fun and fraud of human polarities with urgency and an occasional eye roll - it's the human condition, and we're all Blinded By Oblivion.
