Blending the soul of Hawaiʻi with the unmistakable pulse of California’s modern reggae movement, Lopaka Rootz has carved out a style he proudly calls “Hawaii Island Cali Reggae. His music is a warm, uplifting fusion of island vibes, conscious lyricism, and Cali-inspired grooves—crafted to inspire, heal, and bring people together.
For over 15 years, Lopaka Rootz has been sharing his energy on stages across Hawaiʻi and beyond. What began in 2010 at humble open mics soon grew into a lifelong calling. Though music had tugged at him since childhood, it wasn’t until a near-death experience in his twenties that he decided to stop holding back and fully commit to becoming the artist he always felt destined to be.
Ironically, his true transformation arrived in the studio - while recording his own early releases. There, he discovered The Music Lesson by legendary bassist Victor Wooten, a book that shifted everything he believed about artistry and purpose. Until then, he chased accolades, attention, and recognition. After reading it, he understood that music was much deeper: a spiritual calling, a responsibility, and a way to uplift others. That shift changed his life.
He stopped “chasing the carrot” and began channeling music with heart, intention, and truth. Real success soon followed. Lopaka walked away from a well-paying 9–5 job to pursue music full-time, dedicating his life to creating songs that make people feel good and feel seen. Today, he performs on weekends while spending his weekdays raising his young son - a blessing he counts as one of his greatest accomplishments. Hearing his son sing his lyrics is, for Lopaka, a surreal reminder of why he creates music in the first place.
Lopaka Rootz’s songs have reached listeners around the world, earning millions of streams and regular rotation on FM radio across Hawaiʻi, Guam, California, Arizona, Maine, Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Japan, and many other regions globally. One playful interlude track has surpassed 3 million streams, while a jingle originally written for a Hawaiʻi head shop has climbed toward 2 million.
Two of his most successful singles - “Daydream” ft. Ryan Hiraoka and “Living My Best Life” - were featured on FOX’s nationally syndicated TV show HI Surf & Rescue. “Living My Best Life” was even selected as the intro for the show’s season and series finale, marking Lopaka’s first major television sync placements.
His studio catalog continues to grow and includes past releases such as: “Lemon Pie” ft. Kash’d Out, “Harvest” ft. Josh Heinrichs & Skillinjah, “Blue Clear Sky”, a licensed reggae reinterpretation of George Strait’s classic, “Rock with Me” ft. Sierra Marin (latest release), “Sleepy Eyes” (upcoming).
At the heart of everything, Lopaka Rootz’s mission is simple: to spread positive vibes, uplift spirits, and win hearts - one song at a time. His music is more than entertainment; it’s a message, a movement, and a reflection of a life lived with intention, gratitude, and aloha.
